The Parsippany Democratic County Committee
Scholarship Program
For over a decade, the Parsippany Democratic County Committee has offered scholarships to students at Parsippany High School and Parsippany Hills High School. Originally offered only to students participating in the IPLE (Institute for Political and Legal Education) classes, the program was expanded two years ago to include students in the Advanced Placement Government and Politics class.
One $500 Scholarship for each high school is awarded.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the award, a student must be planning to continue his or her education at an accredited University or at a trade/technical/vocational school. The applicant must be a positive role model, be a graduating senior and have the recommendation of their class instructor.
Essay Submission
The final requirement, and the one that has always brought the most joy and inspiration to the members of the judging committee, is the essay. Applicants are asked to state, in 250 words or less, their response to one of the following:
1) What I think could be done to interest more people, especially young people, in the political process, or 2) How my participation in the IPLE or the Advanced Placement Government and Politics class has better prepared me to participate in the political process.
Applications are available with the school guidance counselor.
Award Presentation
The scholarships are presented at the school’s award night ceremony in the spring by the Parsippany Democratic Committee Chairperson.
We thank you for supporting us so that we may continue this valuable program that not only offers visibility to the Democratic Party, but helps worthwhile students further their educational aspirations.
