Douglas Herbert resides in Chatham Borough and is a practicing attorney. He participates as member of Chatham’s Zoning Board of Adjustment and the Joint Recreation Committee of Chatham Borough and Chatham Township. He was a founding member of Chatham’s Green Initiatives Committee.

After high school, Doug joined the Army as an infantryman where he served with the 2nd Armored Division in West Germany and parachuted with the 82nd Airborne Division for four years. He received numerous awards and decorations, including the Army Commendation Medal and Army Achievement Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.

Upon leaving the army, Doug attended night school while working in construction, eventually transferring to Columbia University where he majored in political science and graduated in 1992. Douglas continued his studies at Seton Hall Law School. There he was selected to participate in the Legislative Bureau and interned at the New Jersey State Senate.

Douglas married Marcy after they graduated from Columbia University. They have three children, ages seventeen, ten and five. Depending on the season, Douglas coaches his kids in soccer, baseball and football. Marcy is the chair of Chatham’s Land Conservancy and Open Space Committee and Community Gardens.

During his career, Douglas worked as a financial controller, assisted in the criminal prosecution of juvenile delinquents at the Bronx Family Court and represented international airlines. Presently, he practices law at his own firm in Brooklyn.
